How we calculate
About the comparisons
Finding a solo block, calculated per year
Based on your device's hashrate and the current network difficulty. We assume the network keeps growing at its historical pace, roughly doubling every two years. Updates live every time you load the page.
Winning EuroMillions jackpot, 1 in 139.838.160 per ticket
The odds of matching all 5 numbers plus 2 lucky stars in a single EuroMillions draw.
Being struck by lightning, 1 in 500.000 per year
The estimated annual probability of a person being struck by lightning, based on commonly cited statistics.
Rolling 5 sixes in a row, 1 in 7.776 per attempt
The mathematical probability of rolling a six on a standard die five consecutive times. (1/6)⁵ = 1/7.776.
Formulas
Chance per block = Your Hashrate / Network Hashrate
Each of the 144 daily blocks is like a lottery draw. Your odds of winning each draw equal your share of the total network hashrate.
Chance per day = 1 − (1 − chance per block) ^ 144
With 144 blocks mined per day, this calculates your cumulative probability of finding at least one block. The same logic extends to monthly (×30) and yearly (×365) odds.
Block reward = 3.125 BTC + transaction fees
When you find a block, you receive the full block reward plus all transaction fees in that block. The reward goes directly to your wallet, no pool, no middleman.
Solo vs. Pool mining
Solo mining
You mine independently and keep the entire block reward when you find one. Lower probability, but the full reward is yours. No KYC, no fees, no third party.
Pool mining
You combine hashrate with other miners for more frequent, smaller payouts. Pools typically charge 1–2% fees and may require account registration.
Important notes
- Mining is probabilistic, you could find a block on your first day or not for years. The odds shown are statistical averages, not predictions.
- Network difficulty adjusts roughly every 2 weeks. As more miners join the network, difficulty increases and your odds decrease.
- The block reward halves approximately every 4 years. The next halving (expected ~2028) will reduce it from 3.125 to 1.5625 BTC.
- These calculations are based on current network conditions and are for informational purposes only. This is not financial advice.

How we calculate
For each period we compute: chance per block = your hashrate ÷ network hashrate. We then extend that across the expected number of blocks (144 per day). When network growth > 1.0×, we discretize the timeline into monthly steps and grow the network hashrate iteratively, which gives a more honest long-horizon estimate.
Compared to other long shots
Your odds of finding a block over 1 year, vs. fixed real-world odds.
How we calculate
The probability shown for your selected device is the annual block-finding probability, calculated the same way as the 1-year row in the Probability breakdown above. The other rows are fixed real-world odds from commonly cited statistics: EuroMillions (per ticket), lightning (per year), poker royal flush (per single hand), hole in one (per attempt), 5 sixes (per attempt), meteorite (per year).
Block reward
Plus all transaction fees in the block. If you find one, the full reward goes to your wallet.
How we calculate
Block reward = 3.125 BTC + all transaction fees in the block. The fiat estimate uses the live BTC price (or your manual value) × 3.125. Halving cuts the reward in half roughly every 4 years. The next halving (~2028) drops it to 1.5625 BTC.
